Cognitive Health Support
Can I Slow Cognitive Decline?
Cognitive decline is a part of aging, one in which many experience decreased speed in cognition, memory problems and difficulty paying attention. However, there are steps you can take to decrease your risk of decline and maintain cognitive health. Lifestyle changes can be a great step to support your cognitive health, such as a eating a nutritious diet, managing chronic health problems, engaging in social and meaningful activities, daily physical activity and getting adequate sleep. Recent studies have also supported additional evidence regarding the benefit of a multivitamin on cognitive health in older adults’ memory performance, namely Centrum Silver Multivitamin tablets in a COSMOS study.
Multivitamin Benefits on Memory
This latest study included a group of over 500 older men and women (60+ years) who were randomized to receive either Centrum Silver Multivitamin tablets or a placebo (a pill with no active ingredients). They completed in-person cognitive assessments at the beginning of the trial and then every year for 2 years. The tests measured their overall cognitive function (a variety of mental activities used in everyday life such as attention, language, processing speed, etc.), as well as memory and executive function (things like decision making, planning and problem solving). After reviewing the data over 2 years, the researchers found that people who took Centrum Silver Multivitamin tablets had greater performances on the memory tests than those taking the placebo.
In addition to this new evidence, the COSMOS researchers also looked at the combined data across all 3 of their cognition studies (which included over 5,000 non-overlapping participants), which each measured cognitive function and memory among older adults in slightly different ways (by telephone, computer or in-person). When looking at the data across all 3 studies, there were clear and consistent benefits to daily use of Centrum Silver Multivitamin tablets on cognitive function and memory.
Nutrition to Support Brain Function
As nutrient needs change as we age, older adults often fall short of the recommended amounts of key vitamins and minerals. Adding a multivitamin like Centrum Silver can be a helpful strategy to fill those dietary gaps and support overall health, memory and cognition.
